RIVER GROVE, Ill. – MATC softball erupted for an eight-run seventh-inning to help earn a comeback win in Game 1 during Tuesday's road doubleheader against Triton. In Game 2, the Stormers let the Trojans get the best of them late, which resulted in an 8-1 defeat to earn a series split.
"Triton is a very good team," MATC head coach Joe Kuntner said. "We would have liked to sweep them, but to come away with a 1-1 split vs. them, I'm happy with our team and the way we played overall."
Game 1: Stormers 14, Triton 9 (7 Innings)
- Trailing 9-6 in the top of the seventh, MATC exploded for an eight-run inning to earn a come-from-behind victory
- The eight-run seventh was sparked off five hits, two drawn walks, and one defensive error by Triton
- Sophia Hansen, Jayden Moss and Lily Dorado each had RBI singles in the seventh
- Ryen Pagano barreled a two-run home run in the seventh
- MATC starter Dorado went four innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on nine hits
- Eleanor Henschel picked up the win in relief, giving up two runs on two hits with one strikeout over three innings
- Hansen went 3-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Stormers at the plate
- Pagano contributed two hits, three RBIs and two runs
- Dorado went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including a solo homer in the second to knot things at one run apiece
- According to MATC's record books dating back to 2018, Tuesday's five-run win over Triton marked the first time in program history that the Stormers were able to defeat the Trojans.
Game 2: Triton 8, Stormers 1 (7 Innings)
- MATC was outhit 8-1 against the Trojans
- Triton took a 1-0 lead in the first off a solo homer
- Ryen Pagano barreled a solo shot to tie the game 1-1 in the fifth
- Triton regained a 5-1 lead in the fifth off a RBI single, RBI double and a two-run homer
- Two more homers by Triton in the top of the sixth extended the deficit to 8-1
- Rylyn Paulick went 2-for-3 with two singles
- Lily Dorado and Mia Carani each had singles
- Emma Staudt took the loss after giving up six earned runs on seven hits while striking out six over five innings of work
