PALOS HILLS, Ill. – Early run production helped lift Milwaukee Area Technical College to a pair of road victories over Moraine Valley Community College Tuesday while simultaneously getting the Stormers back to above .500% at the midway point through the 2024-25 season.
MATC immediately jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first during the opener to help catapult a 8-6 win in Game 1. From there, the Stormers carried their momentum into the nightcap by taking an immediate 2-0 lead in the first before claiming a 3-0 win in the nightcap.
As a result of Tuesday's success, MATC improved its record to 15-13 and 7-6 on the road.
"It was a good day getting both wins," Stormers head coach
Caleb Bounds said. "Our bullpen stepped up in Game 1 along with the bats! We were able to score multiple times and have a couple of big innings…I was proud of the team effort and I think we are starting to play a much better brand of baseball."
Game 1: Stormers 8, Moraine Valley 6 (7 Innings)
- A four-run first allowed MATC to never trail en route to a two-run victory
- Stormers sent eight to the plate in the first, totaling three runs on RBI singles and another run on a sac-fly by Carlito Collins
- Two RBI singles by Moraine Valley in the second cut the Stormers' lead to 4-3
- Robert Crawford III singled in the third to extend the lead to 6-3
- Camdin Jansen hit an RBI single in the fifth to extend the lead to 8-4
- Jansen led the Stormers' offense with two hits, two RBIs and one run scored
- Max Mueller (2-1) earned the win in relief, surrendering one earned run on one hit while striking out one and walking two over two innings of work
- Justin Schnell earned the save, allowing one unearned run on one hit over two innings pitched
- Brady Johnson plated two runs on a single and a walk
- Crawford III had two singles and an RBI
Game 2: Stormers 3, Moraine Valley 0 (7 Innings)
- MATC outhit Moraine Valley 5-3
- Brady Johnson hit a two-out two-RBI single in the first to give the Stormers a 2-0 lead
- MATC starter Josh Barndt retired 21-of-27 total batters faced, six of which came off strikeouts
- Johnson scored Marco Falletti (walk) on a single in the third
- Bardnt (1-3) earned his first win on the mound, allowing just three hits and two walks over a complete-game effort
- Johnson went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Stormers at the plate
- Falletti ran wild on the base paths, totaling a team-high three stolen bases
- Easton Morehouse, Jake Hall, and Foster Milanowski each contributed singles
