ROSEMONT, Ill. – After opening its 2024-25 season with five straight losses, the Milwaukee Area Technical College softball team finally earned its first victory of the season after going 3-1 on the weekend during the Rosemont Dome Jamboree this past Friday and Saturday.
The Stormers picked up a pair of wins against Oakton (W, 9-3) and Highland (W, 1-0) on Friday before splitting a pair of games against Triton (L, 7-11) and Prairie State (W, 13-9) on Saturday. As a result of its strong play in Rosemont, Illinois, this past weekend, the Stormers improved to 3-6 overall.
"We were thankful for the opportunity to compete in the Rosemont Dome Jamboree." MATC softball head coach John Kuntner said. "I was very happy with our team's play. There was a lot of great softball played by all teams. I was proud of our Stormers that we didn't have the momentum, we had the ability to fight and come back. This is a great building block for our Region 4 play and we look forward to the rest of the season."
Game 1: Stormers 9, Oakton 3 (7 innings)
- MATC jumped out to an early 3-0 first-inning lead after an RBI ground out by Rylyn Paulick and a two-RBI single by Emma Staudt
- Paulick doubled down the left field line in the second, scoring Sophia Hansen to go up 4-0
- Oakton broke the shutout with an RBI double in the third to cut the lead to 4-1
- The Stormers added three more runs in the fourth, including a solo homer by Ava Marx, to extend the lead to 7-1
- El Henschel earned the win on the rubber, surrendering 10 hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking none
- Paulick went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Stormers at the plate
- Jayden Moss, Taylor Wilson, Hansen and Marx each had two hits apiece
Game 2: Stormers 1, Highland 0 (7 Innings)
- MATC's starter Emma Staudt was dominant in the circle, allowing just five hits and zero runs with four punchouts and one walk over a complete-game effort
- Staudt retired 9-of-11 batters faced over the course of the final three innings
- The Stormers lone run came in the fourth off an RBI single by Jordan Hanserd
- Ava Marx led the Stormers with a pair of hits and one run scored
- MATC totaled three hits and one defensive error
Game 3: Triton 11, Stormers 7 (7 Innings)
- A seven-run first-inning by Triton put the Stormers in too big of a hole to secure a comeback win
- RyLyn Paulick drove in Sophia Hansen off an RBI single in the first to cut the deficit to 7-1
- Hansen added another run in the second off an RBI single to centerfield to make it 7-2
- Both teams put up a pair of runs in the third before Triton extended its lead to 11-4 following a pair of runs scored in the fifth
- The Stormers' final three runs came in the sixth off a fielder's choice and wild pitch
- Tori Wilson went 3-for-4 with one RBI to pace the Stormers with the sticks
- Jordan Hanserd suffered the loss on the mound, giving up seven runs (five earned) on eight hits with one walk over one inning of work
- Cade May drove in a team-high two RBIs in four plate appearances
Game 4: Stormers 13, Prairie State 9 (7 Innings)
- MATC collected 18 hits and 13 runs in its win over Prairie State
- The Stormers broke things open with a three-run first thanks to RBI doubles by Ava Marx and Emily Pujanauski and an RBI single by Lily Dorado
- The Pioneers countered with a pair of RBI doubles in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 3-2
- Prairie State's Lindsey Pickering tripled in the second to knot things up 3-3
- Prairie State took a 7-3 lead in the third after a defensive error and a three-run inside-the-park home run by Addison Richmond
- Down 8-4 in the sixth, the Stormers erupted for eight runs to go up 12-8 thanks to RBI singles by Paulick, Taylor Wilson, Hansen, Celia May, Zoey Murph and an RBI double by Ryen Pagano
- Both teams scored one run in the seventh
- MATC starter Emma Stuadt (2-0) earned her second win on the bump, allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out three in 3 and ⅔ innings
- Hansen led the Stormers' offense with four hits and pair of RBIs, including an inside-the-park home run in the seventh
- Pagano and Murph each collected three hits and two RBIs Marx and May totaled two hits apiece
