MOBERLY, Mo. – The Milwaukee Area Technical College baseball team had a solid showing in Mobley, Missouri, where they wound up taking three of four matchups against Moberly Area Community College this past Friday and Saturday.
The Stormers put up 32 runs between their three road wins over the Greyhounds, helping them improve their record to 5-2 on the season.
"I was proud of the way the boys came out swinging it in our series against Moberly," MATC baseball head coach
Caleb Bounds said. "I think the boys are starting to understand what it takes to win games at this level."
Game 1: Stormers 12, Moberly 6
- MATC dominated with a 14-hit attack
- A four-hit, five-run first inning put the game in control
- Marco Falletti led off the game with a two-RBI double to right field
- Jaiden Jung came through with a two-run bomb in the second
- Cole Wissen barreled a three-run blast in the third to make it 10-1
- Moberly scored five runs off four hits and three free bases between the third and fifth innings
- Wissen, Falletti, Ryan Quello and Carlito Collins each had multi-hit games
- Luke Klekamp picked up the win on the rubber, surrendering five runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out seven and walking three over 4 and ⅓ innings
- Justin Schnell had two strikeouts in 2 and ⅔ innings of relief
Game 2: Stormers 15, Moberly 4 (5 Innings)
- MATC found themselves trailing 3-1 through three innings
- The Stormers responded in the fourth by erupting for a five-hit, 10-run explosion thanks to the help of three drawn walks and two hit-by-pitches
- Marco Falletti provided four hits (one triple, one double, two singles), five RBIs and three runs scored
- Ryan Quello drove in four runs in two plate appearances
- Jake Catalano (1-0) earned his first win of the season, striking out five and scattering three earned runs on four hits over four innings of work
- MATC outhit Moberly 9-6
- Both teams played solid defense as they each finished with just one defensive error
Game 3: Stormers 5, Moberly 3 (9 Innings)
- Carlito Collins clutched up for a game-tying solo home run in the seventh to knot things up 3-3 and help force extras
- With runners on first and second with one out in the top of the ninth, Leonardo Zerillo smacked a RBI single to drive in Ryan Quello
- Cole Wissen added an insurance run in the ninth off a RBI sacrifice flyout to make it 5-3
- Eethan Engelbrecht tossed three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win, including a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth to seal the victory
- Starter Max Mueller tossed six innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts
- Camdin Jansen, Collins and Wissen each had two hits apiece to collectively lead the Stormers at the plate
Game 4: Moberly 7, Stormers 6
- The Stormers fell behind 1-0 in the first before taking a 2-1 lead in the third following an RBI single by Bryant Armijo-Martin
- Moberly's A.J. Lucas drove in a run on an infield single in the third to knot things up 2-2
- Trailing 3-2 in the fourth, Moberly took firm control by scoring five runs on six hits to take a commanding 7-3 lead
- MATC scored three runs in the sixth off a two RBI single by Camdin Jansen and an RBI single by Armijo-Martin
- Armijo-Martin went 3-for-4 with three singles and three RBIs to pace the Stormers' offense
- Jansen contributed two singles, two RBIs, and a pair of runs scored
- Easton Morehouse drew three walks and scored once
- Jake Hall ran wild on the base paths, totaling a team-high two stolen bases
- Josh Barndt suffered the loss on the mound, allowing five earned runs on eight hits while striking out two and walking two over 3 and ⅔ innings
