KANKAKEE, Ill. – Hosting Kankakee controlled Friday's doubleheader against MATC, handing the Stormers a doubleheader sweep, 18-0 and 12-4, in Region 4 softball action.
MATC was shutout in five innings during the opener before allowing eight unanswered runs in a 12-4 loss in six innings during the nightcap. The pair of defeats moved the Stormers to 9-12 on the season.
"KCC is undefeated in region play," MATC head coach Joe Kuntner said. "They are excellent hitters, and well coached. We didn't play to our expectations."
Game 1: KCC 18, Stormers 0 (5 Innings)
- MATC fell behind 4-0 in the first and couldn't recover
- The Cavaliers busted things open with a 12-run, second-inning eruption led by 10 hits
- The Stormers' offense was limited to three combined hits
- Sophia Hansen paced the Stormers' with a double
- Mia Carani and Ryen Pagano each had singles
- MATC Starter Nevaeh Folk took the loss, surrendering 16 earned runs on 15 hits over two innings
- Jordan Hanserd tossed two innings of relief, giving up one run on one hit with zero walks
Game 2: KCC 12, Stormers 4 (6 Innings)
- Tied 4-4 midway through the third, the Stormers were outscored 8-0 over the final three and a half innings
- MATC took a 3-1 lead in the second on a two-RBI triple by Sophia Hansen and an RBI single from Celia May
- KCC countered with a three-run second-inning of its own, two of which came on a two-run home run
- Jordan Hanserd recorded an RBI single in the third to knot things at four runs apiece
- Hansen went 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs to pace the Stormers at the plate
- Ryen Pagano contributed two singles and one run scored
- Eleanor Henschel took the loss, allowing a dozen runs (nine earned) on 14 hits over a complete-game effort
