GALESBURG, Ill. – Riding a four-game winning streak, the Milwaukee Area Technical College softball team traveled to Carl Sandburg for a doubleheader Saturday, where they wound up earning a series split after picking up an eight-run victory in the opener.
In their first road matchup since Mar. 1, the Stormers' offense exploded for a 10-2 victory in five innings before dropping the follow up game, 5-2, in seven innings. The series split moved MATC to 8-9 overall and 1-4 on the road.

Emma Staudt was dominant on the mound, along with Ryen Pagan's two homers and
Taylor Wilson's great defensive play behind the plate helped lead us to our Game 1 victory," MATC head coach Joe Kuntner said. "...Overall I was proud of the team even though we lost the second game.
"The season is still young and we continue to be confident in our ability."
Game 1: MATC 10, Carl Sandburg 2 (5 Innings)
- Ryen Pagano barreled two home runs (three RBIs) to lead the Stormers' high-powered offense against Carl Sandburg
- Ava Marx opened the contest with an RBI single to put MATC up 1-0 in the first
- Jayden Moss doubled in the second, scoring one run to make it 2-0
- MATC totaled five runs on five hits in the third, giving the Stormers a commanding 7-0 lead
- Pagano's solo home run in the fourth led to a three-run inning by the Stormers
- Up 10-0, the Stormers' defense surrendered two runs on an RBI double and an RBI single in the fifth before sealing the final out for a 10-2 victory
- Emma Staudt (3-2) earned the win within the circle, allowing two unearned runs on four hits while striking out eight over five innings
- Aniesa Neave, Jayden Moss, and Marx each had two hits apiece while combining for four RBIs
- Taylor Wilson and Zoey Murph each chipped in a double
Game 2: Carl Sandburg 5, MATC 2 (7 Innings)
- Sandburg broke a 0-0 tie by scoring a run on an error and a solo homer by Hannah Pyle in the first
- Back-to-back leadoff singles by MATC's Zoey Murph and Aniesa Neave led to a one-run third-inning to cut the Stormers deficit to 2-1
- Sandburg's Pyle smacked her second homer in the third, a two-run shot to extend the lead to 4-1
- MATC plated one run on three hits in the seventh
- Zoey Murph went 3-for-3 with a run scored to help lead the Stormers at the plate
- Ava Marx, Lily Dorado and Aniesa Neave had one single each, with Dorado and Marx adding one stolen base apiece
- Nevaeh Folk suffered the loss on the mound, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits over three innings
- Eleanor Henschel had three strikeouts in three innings of relief action

MATC (8-9) will host College of Lake County for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. Thursday.
