MILWAUKEE, Wis. — When head coach
Randy Casey laid down a simple but demanding challenge earlier this month — win the final five games before winter break — his No. 15 Milwaukee Area Technical College squad didn't just rise to it. They bulldozed through it.
The Stormers completed the mission Thursday night with a 120–73 dismantling of Blackhawk College, their fourth double‑digit victory in that five‑game stretch and their sixth straight win overall. MATC (13–3) overwhelmed Blackhawk in every phase, owning the paint, swarming defensively, controlling the glass and piling up 31 assists, well above its season average. The bench also erupted for a 64–7 scoring margin to send the Stormers into the break on a surge.
"We knew we were the better team out there tonight, but we just had to lock in," MATC starting guard
Noah Daniels said. "Our goal was to win these last five games before break and we came out there and did that."
Despite hosting a winless Blackhawk Technical College squad (0–11), MATC found itself in a tight early battle, leading just 15–14 after opening 5‑for‑12 from the field with four turnovers. Casey called timeout near the 14‑minute mark, and the Stormers responded with a complete transformation, ripping off a 42–14 run to close the half while shooting 52.5 percent with 21 made field goals. The story of the half was MATC's overwhelming perimeter advantage, as the Stormers held an 18–0 edge in made threes behind strong starts from sophomores
Jayden Hackett, who scored 11 points on 4‑for‑5 shooting (3‑for‑4 from deep), and
Noah Daniels, who added 13 points on 5‑for‑6 shooting with one made three.
"I called a timeout to reset our focus," Casey said. "It's about focus and staying disciplined which we continue to talk about. We show moments of brilliance and we show moments of just, 'what the hell are we doing?' But it's a good group and they responded out of that timeout. We just got to learn that we can't have that big of a drop of play."
MATC kept its foot down after halftime, turning the game into a full‑scale runaway behind crisp ball movement and relentless pace. The Stormers continued to overwhelm Blackhawk with paint touches, transition pressure and a bench unit that outscored the visitors 37-3 throughout the second half. The lead stretched past 30 midway through the second half and never tightened again, allowing MATC to control the tempo, rotate freely and close out its sixth straight win with ease.
MATC closed the night shooting 54.7 percent from the field (47‑for‑86) and 46.2 percent from three (12‑for‑26), while its defense held Blackhawk to 36.6 percent overall and just 19 percent from deep (4‑for‑21). The Stormers forced 18 turnovers, recorded nine blocks and dominated the glass with a 65–35 rebounding advantage, including a 21–14 edge on the offensive boards. Their statistical control showed up across every category, including a 36–12 margin in made threes, a 21–11 edge in second‑chance points, a 30–15 advantage in points off turnovers and a 64–44 spread in paint scoring.
Daniels led the charge with one of his best offensive performances of the season, finishing with a team‑high 24 points on 9‑for‑11 shooting, including 4‑for‑5 from three. He added two rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.
Six other Stormers joined him in double figures. Hackett followed with 16 points on 6‑for‑12 shooting, adding two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Sophomore
Jordan Jones came close to a double‑double with 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists, two blocks and a steal. Freshman
Jason Lawani also scored 12, paired with nine rebounds (five offensive rebounds) while shooting 5‑for‑7 from the field. Freshman
Turon Rivers contributed 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and a block. Freshman
Aidan Chapman added 11 points on 4‑for‑6 shooting along with three rebounds and three assists.
Ozzie Johnson rounded out the scoring surge with a double‑double, posting 10 points and a team‑high 15 rebounds, including six on the offensive end.
"When we share the ball, that seems to be our biggest victories," Casey said. "It was good to see that. It was good to see Daniels and Hackett shooting the ball well from three on the same night. It seems to be one or the other, but Daniels has been the most consistent, so it was great to see them both shoot it well tonight."
Daniels said the balanced scoring and complete effort showed the strides MATC is making as they prepare to head into the second half of the season coming out of winter break..
"This is definitely a good stepping point for us," Daniels said. "Now it's about not taking any steps backward. We just have to stay locked in over break and come back ready to show the rest of Region 4 what we're all about."
