OAK CREEK, Wis. — Milwaukee Area Technical College saw its Sophomore Day spoiled Wednesday as No. 14 Madison College rolled to an 11-0 shutout that closed the Stormers' 2025-26 regular season. MATC trailed just six minutes in and faced a 5-0 halftime deficit before finishing winless at 0-11-1.
Unfortunately for the Stormers, any hopes of playing spoiler against undefeated Madison were dashed almost immediately. Despite a pair of strong early saves from starting goalkeeper
Sam Kulibert, the WolfPack capitalized on rebounds to score in the 5th and 15th minutes, seizing control before MATC could settle in.
It wasn't until the 33rd minute that the Stormers registered their first attempt in opposing territory, when freshman midfielder Christian Hernandez put a shot on goal that missed. It stood as MATC's lone attempt of the half. In comparison, Madison unleashed 19 first-half shots, including 13 on goal, to build a 5-0 lead after adding three scores in the final 14 minutes before the break.
Madison continued its offensive onslaught in the second half, scoring in the 46th, 49th, twice in the 50th, 53rd and 57th minutes to secure the 11-0 victory.
"I think Madison has done a really good job of setting themselves up for success by being a team," MATC head coach Aron "Buddy" Gentry said. "They play for each other, they work for each other, and they want to see success for each other. They're happy to be the one who gives up the ball, the minutes, or even shots on goal if it means their program succeeds—even if they don't succeed individually. That's the type of program we hope to build here at MATC."
Despite finishing without a win this season, Gentry believes his squad made important strides as a program, particularly with 16 freshmen on the roster.
"I think there was growth this season—not on the scoreboard, but both in the classroom and on the pitch," Gentry said. "They're a young group that hopefully matured a lot through this season's ups and downs, and we look to bounce back even stronger next year."
Prior to the match, MATC honored its sophomore class —
Giovanni Guerrero,
August Zuccaro and
Antonio Estrada — for their contributions over the past two seasons.
