Stormers Show Late Fight but can’t Overcome 6-0 Deficit

OAK CREEK, Wis. — The Milwaukee Area Technical College men's soccer team endured another long afternoon Wednesday, falling behind early and never recovering in a 7-2 home loss to Kishwaukee. The Stormers dropped to 0-9-1 on the season.

"I think when we pass the ball around and look for each other's feet, we're dangerous," MATC head coach Aron "Buddy" Gentry said. "When we try to be individualistic, we are just that — individuals. Each game is a learning opportunity for us, and I think we've gotten better. The results just aren't showing it."

Looking to notch their first victory of the year, MATC quickly found itself chasing the match. Kishwaukee midfielder Ayman Farah slipped a perfectly timed pass to freshman forward Fernando Diaz, who buried the chance with a composed finish in the 8th minute.

The Kougars controlled possession and punished the Stormers with a three-goal flurry late in the first half. Back-to-back strikes less than 40 seconds apart stretched the lead to 3-0, and Joaquin Medina added a point-blank goal off a corner kick in the 42nd minute to make it 4-0 at the break.

Kishwaukee wasted little time after halftime, tacking on two more goals to seize a commanding 6-0 advantage. MATC finally broke through in the 59th minute when Christian Hernandez capitalized on a breakaway, slotting home an unassisted goal to end the drought.

Both sides traded goals down the stretch. Kishwaukee answered with its seventh tally before Bakari Suku Mboboci pulled one back for the Stormers in the 78th minute, also unassisted.

"I like that we showed some resilience," Gentry said of his team's ability to score twice in the second half. "I just wish we would do that earlier in the game and not take so many punches, so to speak, before we give our full effort."

The Kougars outshot MATC 21-11, including a 12-6 edge in shots on goal, and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Stormers goalkeeper Sam Kulibert finished with five saves.
