JOLIET, Ill. — The Milwaukee Area Technical College women's soccer team couldn't climb out of an early four-goal hole Saturday, falling 4–2 to Joliet Junior College despite a late brace from sophomore forward
Katelyn Haeft.
Trailing 4–0 with just eight minutes remaining, Haeft added to her single-season scoring record with a penalty kick in the 82nd minute and a second goal off an assist from
Vanessa Reyes in the 84th. The pair of scores brought her season total to 12, but the late surge wasn't enough, as the Stormers dropped their second straight match and fell to 5-2-2 overall.
"The results are tough to accept," MATC head coach Aron "Buddy" Gentry said. "We started the match with strong discipline and organization, conceding just one goal in the first 45 minutes. Unfortunately, we lost that in the second half during a 15-minute window, where we allowed three goals that put us in a difficult position…the women are a driven group and I have full faith in them and our staff to bounce back stronger for our next match against Kishwaukee."
The first half was a defensive grind that nearly sent both teams into the break scoreless. But Joliet's Victoria Davila broke through in the 35th minute, slipping a shot past MATC goalkeeper Caroline Busczynski—who finished with 12 saves—off a setup from Sophia DeCarlo. The goal gave the Wolves momentum heading into halftime.
Down 1–0 to start the second half, the Stormers struggled to contain Joliet's attack during a 15-minute flurry, conceding goals in the 58th, 65th and 73rd minutes to fall behind 4–0.
