MATC’s Hansen Cements Legacy as an All-Time Stormer Softball Player

OAK CREEK, Wis. - Milwaukee Tech sophomore outfielder Sophia Hansen recently concluded her collegiate softball career by resetting MATC's history books after a breakout sophomore campaign.

In 2024-25, Hansen went on to record a .399 batting average with 56 runs, 36 RBIs, 21 stolen bases, 13 doubles, seven homers, and four triples over 51 games played. Her ability to be a constant offensive threat in the leadoff spot proved pivotal in MATC being able to set a new program record for the most wins (32) in a single-season after the Stormers finished this past season going 32-24 overall.

Having ended her softball career on a positive note, Hansen managed to stamp her name at the very top of MATC's all-time leaderboards in a multitude of categories. In two seasons with the Stormers, Hansen ranks first all-time in career at-bats (279), runs scored (103), games played (92), and triples (10). Not to mention, she also ranks second all-time in career hits (109), only trailing teammate Ryen Pagano, who finished with 110 career hits.

"I'm thankful for the opportunity to play at MATC," Hansen said. "I think these records can go to show that when you put in the work to become a better player, you will see the results."

Outside of her all-time ranks, Hansen totaled 46 RBIs, 46 stolen bases, and 37 walks while slashing .391/.464/.599 in 92 appearances over the last two seasons. She went from recording zero home runs in 2024 to barreling seven homers in 2025, which showcased a drastic improvement in her power at the plate.

"Sophie sets the table every game batting lead off," MATC head coach Joe Kuntner said. "I call her our 'speed demon' because  her ability to get on base allowed  Ryen Pagano and Ava Marx to have high RBI totals.

"Defensively, she was our general in the outfield," Kuntner added. "Hansen gets to balls that not many can get to with a great burst and catch up speed.  She drove every day 1 hour from  Plymouth, Wisc., to and from practice, worked, and lived in the gym, which contributed to her increase in home run totals. I will miss Sophia.  She is a great communicator on and off the field.  Her records will be tough for our returning class and freshman to beat."

Hansen is set to transfer to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee next fall, where she will turn to focusing on her studies in order to become a secondary English teacher.

"I will miss my teammates and coaches," Hansen said. "Being a part of MATC brought a strong community into my life and gave me friendships that I know will last a lifetime."
