GALLATIN, Tenn. – The Stormers traveled down south to compete in the Music City Classic, where they went 0-5 with four mercy rule losses this past weekend to open the 2025 spring season.
"It was an opportunity to learn and grow and see where we want to get to as a team," MATC softball head coach Joe Kuntner said of his team's performance in the Music City Classic. "We thank Volunteer State Community College for hosting us as we now have set higher expectations for our MATC softball team this season."
Game 1: Volunteer State College 14, Stormers 2 (5 innings)
- Ryen Pagano barreled a solo homerun in the top of the first to give the Stormers an early 1-0 lead
- Volunteer State responded with two separate three-run innings in the first and second innings
- Ava Marx reach first on an error to score Pagano (single) and cut the lead to 6-2 through three innings
- The Stormers totaled three hits – two from Pagano and a single by Ava D'Acquisto
- Starter Eleanor Henschel threw 2 innings, striking out two, walking two and scattering 12 hits and a dozen earned runs
Game 2: Wabash Valley 16, Stormers 0 (5 Innings)
- The Stormers went hitless against Wabash Valley's ace Alexis Tucker, who allowed zero hits and five walks while striking out nine over 5 innings
- Ava Marx totaled two draws walks, which was one more walk drawn than teammates Jayden Moss, Emma Staudt and Aniesa Neave
- Jordan Hanserd took the loss on the mound, allowing seven runs (six earned) on five hits and three walks over two innings
Game 3: Motlow State 11, Stormers 9
- Stormers held a 9-5 lead in the fifth before allowing Motlow State to score six unanswered runs between the sixth and seventh innings
- Sophia Hansen drove in four runs on three hits, including a two-RBI triple that broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the fifth inning
- The Stormers totaled 16 hits – Lily Dorado led the way with four singles and three runs scored
- Ryen Pagano went 2-for-5 with a pair of singles and three RBIs
- Celia May had three singles and one stolen base
- Starter Emma Staudt surrendered seven earned runs on nine hits and three walks with three strikeouts overs 5 ⅓ innings of work
Game 4: Volunteer State 21, Stormers 1 (5 Innings)
- The Stormers were outhit 15-3 by Volunteer
- State Sophia Hansen scored the Stormers' lone run on wild pitch in the bottom of the first
- Celia May went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles
- Madi Johnson Hass had one single
- Nevaeh Folk suffered the loss, allowing seven runs (three earned) on four hits with three walks over one inning
- Reliever Rylyn Paulick tossed 3 ⅔ innings, giving up nine earned runs on nine hits
Game 5: Volunteer State 8, Stormers 0 (5 Innings)
- Volunteer State jumped out to an early 3-0 first-inning lead before going on to secure the shutout win
- Ava Marx recorded the Stormers' only hit with a leadoff single in the second
- Sophia Hansen drew one walk in two plate appearances
- Emma Staudt suffered the loss, striking out one and issuing three walks in 4 ⅓ innings
