GLEN ELLYN, Ill. — The Milwaukee Area Technical College men's soccer team delivered one of its best offensive performances of the season Wednesday, matching its season high with four goals against host College of DuPage. But the Stormers couldn't keep pace with the Chaps' scoring surges, falling 9–4 in a high-octane road contest.
"Scoring four goals against a current top-five team in our region is something to be proud of," MATC head coach Aron "Buddy" Gentry said. "It shows our attacking capabilities. But at the same time, putting four on the board and not walking with a victory is unacceptable. We want to compete at the highest level and to do that, our defensive abilities need to match our offensive abilities moving forward."
The Stormers (0-7-1) battled from the opening whistle, answering DuPage's early goal with a composed finish from freshman
Adam Turay in the eighth minute to level the match at 1–1. DuPage responded with three goals in a 13-minute stretch midway through the first half, capitalizing on defensive breakdowns and crisp passing to build a comfortable 4–1 lead.
MATC clawed back before halftime when freshman
Reynaldo Paniagua converted a penalty kick in the 34th minute, trimming the deficit to 4–2 and giving the Stormers a spark heading into the break.
Unfortunately for the Stormers, the second half followed a similar script. DuPage struck quickly with another three-goal burst between the 55th and 65th minutes, stretching the lead to 8–3 despite a well-placed finish from
Cristian Hernandez off a Paniagua assist in the 58th minute.
Edwin Espinosa added a late penalty kick to bring MATC within 8–4, but DuPage capped the scoring in the final minute with its third unassisted goal of the match to seal the five-goal win.
Despite the seventh straight defeat, the Stormers showed resilience and attacking promise. All four goals came from different players, highlighting a balanced offensive effort. Paniagua led the way with a goal and an assist, while Turay, Hernandez and Espinosa each added one goal. Goalkeeper
Sam Kulibert recorded five saves on 14 shots faced.
