MILWAUKEE, Wis - The Milwaukee Area Technical College men's basketball team shot nearly 69% in the second half and never trailed en route to an 81-43 season opening win over Sauk Valley Community College on Tuesday night.
Sauk Valley kept it close in the first half as MATC led 28-21 at halftime. MATC caught fire in the second half, missing just ten shots from the field, while Sauk Valley struggled all game, shooting just 25%.
MATC shot over 54% in the game and were 12-of-15 at the free throw line. The Stormers turned the ball over 18 times in the game compared to 30 timesfor Sauk Valley. MATC also snagged 15 steals. Sauk Valley had a slight edge in rebounds, grabbing 29 boards, including 18 offensive rebounds, while MATC managed 27 rebounds.
Five Stormers scored in double digits.
Evan Runkel paced the Stormers with a double-double, 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Kyan Pleasant had 15 points,
Deonta Williams scored 14 points, and Damon Simpson, Jr. added 12 points and 7 rebounds in the victory.
D'Andre Morehouse came off the bench and finished the game with 10 points, going 3-for-4 from behind the arc.
