COON RAPIDS, Minn. - MATC women's basketball team got off to a fast start with a 25-9 first quarter lead over Anoka-Ramsey on Thursday night in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and held on over the next three quarters to secure their fourth win of the season.Â
The Stormers shot 40% in the first quarter and got to the free throw line 12 times, converting on 9 of their attempts. The Stormers defense continued a great stretch of not allowing opponents to score more than nine points in a quarter for the fourth straight quarter over the last two games. MATC held Anoka-Ramsey to 3-15 from the field, with all three baskets coming from distance.
Anoka-Ramsey outscored MATC in each of the remaining three quarters but the Stormers were able to hold on for a 66-61 road victory. The game was close in nearly every statistical category. MATC shot 36% from the field and 28.6% from distance. Anoka-Ramsey was 33% from the field and 25.6% from distance.
Anoka-Ramsey attempted 39 three-pointers and connected on 10 of them. MATC went to the charity stripe 24 times in the game, making 16 of those. Anoka-Ramsey only got to the free throw line five times and making three.
MATC controlled the paint, out-rebounding Anoka-Ramsey 41-32 and outscoring them in the paint, 32-16.
Tara Jefferson paced the Stormers, finishing with team highs of 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Nwoye Green also recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Brittany Kaltenberg contributed 14 points to the Stormers win.Â
MATC plays Rochester Community & Technical College on Friday night in Rochester, Minnesota, as they play three games in three days. The Stormers will then have close to a two week break before returning home to the Reiman Gymnasium to host the Concordia University-Wisconsin junior varsity team on December 1st at 6 PM.
