MILWAUKEE, Wis - The MATC Stormers women's basketball team can't shake slow starts early on in the 2016-17 season. The Stormers allowed Elgin Community College to take a 13-11 first quarter lead on Friday night in the Reiman Gymnasium at Alverno College.
MATC would take control in the second quarter, outscoring the Spartans 17-4, and roll to their second straight win, 64-47. The Stormers dominated nearly every statistical category.
MATC was particularly powerful on the boards as the Stormers secured 58 rebounds to just 34 for Elgin Community College. MATC outscored the Spartans, 34-22, in the paint and 19-8 in second chance points as MATC recorded 25 offensive rebounds.
The Stormers had three players score in double figures and two finished with double-doubles. Sophomore
Tara Jefferson led MATC with 18 points and she added 15 rebounds.
Nwoye Green had a great all-around game, registering 11 points, 16 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards, 5 blocks, and 5 steals. The rebounds, blocks, and steals were all game-highs.
Brittany Kaltenberg finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the Stormers.
The Stormers did struggle from behind the three-point arc in the game. MATC was just 1-11 from distance in the first half and 4-19 in the game.Â
MATC goes for three straight wins on Saturday, November 12, at 1 p.m. against Olive-Harvey College in the Reiman Gymnasium at Alverno College. There is no cost for admission.
