The 2025–26 season marks Mark Picard’s sixth year as the head coach of the men’s and women’s tennis programs at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC).
A native of Green Bay, Picard developed a passion for tennis at an early age. He competed for the boys’ tennis team at Green Bay Premontre High School, graduating in 1977. He later earned a degree in photography from MATC in 1984.
Picard brings a wealth of coaching experience across nearly every level of the sport, from high school to the professional ranks. He began his coaching career in 2007 at Wauwatosa West High School, where he served as both the varsity assistant and head junior varsity coach for the boys’ and girls’ tennis teams through 2020. During his time with the program, Wauwatosa West secured multiple Woodland Conference championships under his leadership. In addition to his work at the high school level, Picard joined the staff at Paley Tennis Center in Glendale, Wisconsin, in 2015, where he continues to serve as a teaching professional.
Since taking the helm at MATC in 2020, Picard has focused on building a competitive and disciplined program. He emphasizes recruiting student-athletes who combine balance control with aggressive play, aiming to build a culture of consistency and success.
Over the years, he has coached a broad spectrum of players, from beginners to high school state champions and nationally ranked juniors. Picard, 66, lives in Wisconsin with his wife, Mary. They have two daughters, Anna and Alicia.
