Arom Murrell enters his fourth season as head coach of the Milwaukee Area Technical College women’s basketball program in 2025–26. Since taking the helm in 2022, Murrell has guided the Stormers to a 44–45 overall record.
In addition to his head coaching duties at MATC, Murrell has served as an assistant coach and clinician with Breakthrough Basketball Camp since 2015.
A native of Milwaukee, Murrell is a 1988 graduate of Casimir Pulaski High School, where he began his basketball journey as a standout player. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy and competed for the CVW-5 Airwing team from 1988 to 1991. Upon returning home, he continued his playing career at Cardinal Stritch University from 1995 to 1997 while studying business.
Murrell began his coaching career at John Marshall High School in Milwaukee (2007–09), where he served as head coach at the freshman and junior varsity levels and as an assistant for the varsity boys’ team. He then joined MATC as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball team from 2009 to 2011, followed by a one-year stint as interim head coach of the MATC women’s basketball program during the 2011–12 season.
His head coaching journey continued across the country, leading the men’s basketball program at the University of Wisconsin–Washington County (2014–15) and women's basketball programs at Bristol Community College in Massachusetts (2015–17), Quincy College in Massachusetts (2018–20), and Vermont Technical College (2020–21).
Murrell returned to MATC in 2021 as an assistant coach for the women’s team and resumed his role as head coach in 2022.
Outside of his college coaching roles, Murrell has also coached AAU basketball for several elite programs in the Houston, Texas, area, including Houston Flight and the Gulf Coast Blue Chips.
Off the court, Murrell is a dedicated family man. He is a proud father of five children: Arom Jr., Africa, Ayanna, Cameron and Aleya.
