Stormers Sweep Olive-Harvey to Move to 3–0

OAK CREEK, Wis. — The Milwaukee Area Technical College women's volleyball team kept its early‑season surge rolling Friday night, sweeping Olive‑Harvey 3–0 (25–20, 25–13, 25–22) to remain undefeated at home and improve to 3–0 on the year. The Stormers blended aggressive serving, a variety of attacks, and timely defensive stands to secure their second straight sweep of the new campaign.

MATC controlled the opening set by establishing pressure from the service line, sparked by a string of early aces from freshman outside hitter Ella Azbell. Olive‑Harvey briefly pulled even, but the Stormers steadied themselves and rebuilt separation by capitalizing on opponent errors and maintaining clean side‑out rhythm. Sophomore setter Hope Martens closed the frame with a well‑timed dump to seal the 25–20 win.

The Stormers were at their sharpest in the second set, dictating tempo from start to finish. MATC's serving unit took over, producing five aces — two from Martens, two from freshman setter/opposite Onyx Burdette and one from Azbell — to break the set open early. With Olive‑Harvey struggling to stay in system, MATC extended its lead through steady transition play and a balanced attack. Sophomore middle blocker Annika Romine punctuated the dominant 25–13 win with a clean, set‑ending kill.

The Stormers' youth movement was on full display in the second set, where an all‑freshman lineup — Dorothy Hoagland, Isabella Bloom and Olivia Graves across the front row, with Burdette, Lydia Johnson and Azbell anchoring the back — controlled the floor and powered MATC's most dominant frame of the night.

"The second set was our freshman lineup," Stormers head coach Shel DeLisle said. "That was by design because we wanted to see what they could do. They brought it, which is good news for next year. It helps me know what I do and do not need to bring in moving forward. They did a great job in that second set."

Olive‑Harvey pushed back in the third set, jumping out to an early lead behind aggressive serving and strong swings. MATC responded with poise, chipping away until Burdette and Hoagland powered the Stormers back in front. The teams traded points deep into the frame, but MATC delivered in the closing moments — an ace from Burdette, two Olive‑Harvey attack errors and a final kill from Romine secured the 25–22 finish and the match sweep.

"When we came out of the timeout, we just told each other to relax and remind ourselves that we can play," Romine said. "We didn't want to go to a fourth set — we had a team dinner after — so we knew we needed to lock in and close it out. We focused, settled down and finished the match on a quick run."

"Olive‑Harvey really tricked us with their hard‑hitting attacks, but we also gave away too many unforced errors," Romine added.

The win capped MATC's second sweep in its first three matches, reinforcing a flawless start to the 2026 campaign.

STAT BOOK
Martens paced the offense with 16 assists, while Burdette led the attack with seven kills and a .286 hitting percentage. Azbell delivered one of the night's most efficient performances, hitting .571 with four kills and no errors, adding three aces and a team‑high seven digs. Burdette also contributed three aces as MATC totaled 12 from the service line, and Romine anchored the front row with 1.5 blocks and two set‑winning kills.
