Stormers’ Comeback Bid Falls Short Against Kankakee

OAK CREEK, Wis. — Milwaukee Area Technical College's men's soccer team mounted a second-half rally against Kankakee Community College, but the Stormers couldn't overcome a 3–1 halftime deficit, falling 5–3 at home Wednesday.

Kankakee came out firing, netting three first-half goals to take a commanding 3–0 lead into the break. MATC was limited to just two shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes. After halftime, the Stormers found their rhythm, scoring three goals in the second half, but the early deficit proved too steep.

"We made a system change at half to try and shore up something defensively, which was hopefully going to lead to more scoring opportunities in the second half — which it did," MATC head coach Aron "Buddy" Gentry said. "We just can't start games from behind. Falling behind 3–0 is not the way we wanted to start out."

Freshman midfielder Christian Hernandez led the Stormers' attack, scoring twice in the 54th and 64th minutes to cut the deficit to 4–2. Kankakee responded in the 72nd minute to extend its lead before freshman forward Adam Turay added a late goal in the 89th minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Maxwell Clarkson had a busy night in net, recording six saves — three in each half. MATC finished with 11 shots, including six on goal. Kankakee tallied 21 shots, 11 of which were on target. The Stormers held a 4–2 edge in corner kicks.
