RIVER GROVE, Ill. — The Milwaukee Area Technical College men's soccer team was unable to recapture the offensive firepower it displayed in its home opener Wednesday, falling 9-0 at Triton College.
"Obviously, the result is not what we set out to achieve," MATC coach Aron "Buddy" Gentry said. "We will learn from today, and I am confident that we can fix our current deficiencies. We will execute our adjustments in training as we prepare for our next match."
Unlike its 3-3 draw with Waubonsee Community College in the season opener last Saturday, the Stormers fell behind early. Triton broke the scoreless tie seven minutes in and added two more goals over the next five minutes. With less than 13 minutes gone, MATC trailed 3-0 and never gained momentum, eventually falling behind 7-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Stormers managed only one shot on goal as the Trojans added two more scores to seal the shutout.
Collectively, MATC finished with four shots on goal and split time at goalkeeper between freshmen
Sam Kulibert and
Maxwell Clarksen. Kolibert grabbed five saves compared to seven goals allowed throughout the first half. Clarksen started the second half and hauled in four saves compared to two goals allowed.
