OAK CREEK, Wis. - MATC sophomore
Marco Falletti went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs Wednesday as the Stormers defeated Wisconsin Lutheran JV 19-3 in seven innings during its Autism Awareness Game. Falletti finished one homer shy of hitting for the cycle after barreling a single in the first, a double in the second, and a two-RBI triple in the third.
"The team effort was definitely there," Falletti said. "We were all having fun and talking. We were all loose, and that's how you should play the game of baseball because at the end of the day, it's a kid's game."
The Stormers had little trouble dismantling the Warriors as they went on to plate 17 of their 19 runs over the first three innings. MATC opened with a three-run first, followed by a four-run second before going on to bat around the lineup for a 10-spot in the third. As a team, the Stormers collected 17 hits and had 11 of its players collect at least one hit.
"Our offense did a really good job," MATC head coach
Caleb Bounds said. "We scored 3, 4 and 10 runs in each of the first three innings and so that was a great sign. 11 guys got a hit and even a couple of guys who didn't get a hit had good quality line drive outs. That's exactly what we need to do and we've been hitting really well here lately."
In the third, MATC capitalized on six walks and a hit-by-pitch to
Brady Johnson to help aid its 10-run inning.
Camdin Jansen, Falletti,
Easton Morehouse,
Robert Crawford III,
Bryant Armijo-Martin,and Peyton Shumann each had hits for RBIs in the inning.
"That 10-run inning was a big one," Falletti said. "We were already hitting a bunch and getting in a groove…we did what we were supposed to do. We did a good job hitting the ball there in the third."
Five arms saw action on the bump for the Stormers. Starter
Zach Johnson earned his first win of the season in very first start of the year. He tossed two innings, giving up two unearned runs on one hit while striking out two and walking a pair.
George Benske relieved Johnson and threw two innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking two. Vinny Cameranesi tossed one scoreless inning of relief and allowed zero hits with three punchouts.
Sean Lee also fired a scoreless frame as did closer
Alex Dvorak, who allowed one hit and zero walks with three strikeouts.
"I was proud of the bullpen that hadn't been getting a ton of innings," Bounds said. "It was really good to get good work in today."
