Stormers Bounce Back to Earn a Doubleheader Split vs. South Suburban

CHICAGO, Ill. – MATC baseball had its five-game winning streak snapped during its road doubleheader Sunday against South Suburban, where the Stormers managed to earn a split after taking the second game in dominant fashion.

MATC's offense was stifled in the opener, totaling just three combined hits in an 5-0 loss before bouncing back to in Game 2 to earn a 15-6 victory. The series split moved the Stormers to 19-14 overall, including an 8-7 road record.

"Getting a split against a really good South Suburban team made for a great day," MATC head coach Caleb Bounds said. "Our offense made great adjustments after Game 1 and provided the pitching staff with a ton of support.

"We had multiple batters step up in big moments and be clutch in the game," Bounds added. "I think we scored 11 runs with two outs. That was the most impressive stat of the day."

Game 1: South Suburban 5, Stormers 0 (7 Innings)
  • MATC was outhit 5-3
  • Camdin Jansen, Marco Falletti, and Carlito Collins each had one single apiece
  • Jake Catalano took the loss, allowing three earned runs on five hits while striking out two and walking three over five innings
  • Alex Dvorak tossed ⅔ innings of relief, giving up two earned runs on zero hits and four walks

  • Back-to-back RBI walks with the bases-loaded in the fifth extended the Bulldogs' lead to 3-0
  • South Suburban scored its final two runs in the sixth on four walks, a hit-by-pitch, and an RBI groundout

Game 2: Stormers 15, South Suburban 6 (7 Innings)
  • MATC scored two or more runs in each of the first, second, fourth, fifth, and seventh innings
  • 11 of the Stormers' 15 runs came with two outs
  • MATC led 6-3 through four before going on to outscore the Bulldogs 9-3 over the final three innings, which was in large part to a six-run seventh-inning
  • Marco Falletti barreled a two-run homer in the sixth to help record his third home run of the season
  • The Stormers collected a dozen hits, with three players totaling multi-hit efforts
  • Camdin Jansen went 4-for-5 with a team-high six RBIs and two runs scored
