MALTA, Ill. – MATC baseball split a pair of road games Monday against Kishwaukee, dropping Game 1 by seven before storming back to earn a 10-run win in five innings in Game 2.
The Stormers' defense surrendered a seven-run sixth-inning to allow Kishwaukee to take Game 1, 11-4, in seven innings. In the follow up game, MATC's
Camdin Jansen went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer to help power the Stormers to a 15-5 victory over five innings. As a result of the split, MATC baseball moved to 25-16 and 15-14 in Region 4 play.
"It was a good bounce back win in Game 2," MATC head coach
Caleb Bounds said. "We were able to clear Game 1 and get back to a simpler approach at the plate in Game 2. We just have to continue to play clean baseball both on the defense and pitching side."
Game 1: Kishwaukee 11, Stormers 4 (7 Innings)
- MATC totaled four defensive errors, which helped lead to six unearned runs by Kishwaukee's offense
- A seven-run sixth-inning by the Kougars' offense put them ahead 11-3
- Marco Falletti put the Stormers on the board in the top of the first on an RBI sac-fly
- Riley Emons hit an RBI single in the second to give MATC a 2-0 lead
- Kishwaukee reclaimed a 4-2 lead in the fourth off two hits and an RBI walk
- Jake Catalano took the loss on the mound after allowing four runs and six hits over 3 and ⅔ innings, striking out six and walking one
- Camdin Jansen went 3-for-4 with one double and a run scored
- Bryant Armijo-Martin contributed two hits, one RBI, and a run
- Cole Wissen had a triple and an RBI
Game 2: Stormers 15, Kishwaukee 5 (5 Innings)
- Camdin Jansen went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run and four runs scored to help lead the Stormers at the plate
- MATC jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, primarily on a two-run homer by Carlito Collins
- The Stormers extended their lead to 7-0 in the second on an RBI double from Robert Crawford and a two-run blast by Jansen
- Kishwaukee trimmed its deficit to 7-3 through four innings before an eight-run fifth-inning by the Stormers' offense put the game out of reach
- Jake Lequia earned the win, giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out three over five innings of work
- Collins went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored
- Marco Falletti contributed two singles, two RBIs and two runs scored

MATC (25-16) will travel to College of DuPage Thursday for a road doubleheader beginning at noon.
