DES PLAINES, Ill. - The Milwaukee Area Technical College men's basketball team had little trouble dismantling Oakton College on the road Wednesday evening.
Led by their defense, which held the Owls to 32.9 percent shooting from the field (24-of-73), the Stormers were able to improve to 4-10 and 2-5 on the road following a 79-68 victory over Oakton.
Sophomore
Matthew Hoarde finished as the team leader in points for MATC. The second year guard recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds on 61.5 percent shooting (8-for-13).
As a team, the Stormers wasted little time jumping out to a 41-35 halftime lead at the break. From there, they were only able to extend their lead by five more points during the second half to earn the 11-point victory.
All nine MATC players who entered Wednesday's contest against Oakton scored at least one bucket. And five of those nine players finished with an effective field goal percentage (eFG%) above 50 percent.
With the win, MATC has now won three of its last five games. The recent uptick in competitiveness is a positive sign as the Stormers get ready to gear up for the second half of their 2024-25 season.
