MILWAUKEE, Wis - The MATC Stormers, coming off of two straight games where they scored 100 points, allowed Elgin Community College to hit the century mark in a 100-67 loss on Friday night in the Reiman Gymnasium at Alverno College.
Both teams traded long balls early on. The first five baskets of the game between the two teams were three-pointers. While MATC got cold from behind the line, the Spartans stayed red hot. Four of their first five buckets were from distance and they jumped out to an early 14-6 lead. MATC would never recover.
Despite shooting over 46% in the first half, MATC trailed by 19 points at halftime. The Spartans shot over 56% in the first half and finished the game shooting nearly 52%. Elgin Community College also made over 50% of their three-point attempts in the game.
The Stormers had no answer for Chris Benjamin who finished with 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. He converted 11-of-17 field goals and 4-of-7 three-point baskets.
Evan Runkel, who sat out last game, led MATC with 14 points and 7 rebounds. D.J. Simpson, Jr., also finished in double digits with 10 points and added 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
MATC will try and rebound on Saturday as they host Olive-Harvey College at 3 p.m. in the Reiman Gymnasium at Alverno College. There is no cost to watch the game.
